How To Date A Coloratura

How To Date A Coloratura

As the opera opens, the Boy rushes in

with a book in hand entitled, How To Date A Coloratura. He has just met a coloratura while out on a walk and he was fascinated with her trills and runs. As an educated man who does not know how to approach her, he runs out to buy a book to guide him. He reads from the chapters and as he does so, the Girl enters and portrays diagrams chapter by chapter. In the first chapter, she articulates the best flowers for him to buy. In the second chapter, they deal with the paparazzi in a quote from Die Zauberflöte. In the third, they address fine dining and wine in a French style. In the fourth chapter, they learn to dance the tango and in the fifth, the Boy discovers that while tickets to a concert or to the theatre would be welcome, the coloratura feels most at home in the opera house. As the Boy muses on the expense of dating, the Girl appears and begs him to continue to read into the appendix. He does and there discovers that the best thing for him to do is simply to cherish the woman — and, of course, not to forget to call her and ask her for a date!
